One of the racist coppers in Richard Hardware Stanley’s flawed-but-quite-interesting supernatural serial killer road movie thriller western Dust Devil discovers a severed hand, whilst his mate fertilises the desert with his breakfast.
Whilst the film is confused and disjointed, it’s still worth watching. It mashes together so many genre types, yet feels more than just an exploitationer. It’s very nicely photographed, and the character of Namibia is an integral part of the plot. I would venture as far as to say it is my favourite film set in Namibia.
I first came across this movie in the third (and final) issue of Gavin Hills’ underrated early 90s mag Phat; I rediscovered it the other day so might scan in the picture feature that alerted me to this flick.
