Afghanistan, 1996: landmine victims learned to walk on prosthetic legs
at ICRC clinic
Photojournalist James Nachtwey was an American associate of the South African ‘Bang-Bang Club’ of snappers, a group of young, hotdogging snappers who made a name for themselves documenting the Hostel Wars and other aspects of the latterday Apartheid era and transition period in RSA.
As well as South Africa, Nachtwey has also covered Afghanistan, Chechnya, Somalia, Rwanda, Bosnia and numerous other rather warm holiday destinations.
Some nice pics. Some nasty situations.
