TOLD YOU SO: Plymouth ‘G20 bomb plot that wasn’t a bomb plot’ 5 released without charge

All five members of a group arrested in connection with an alleged terror plot have been released without charge.

Police say the final member of the five, a 25-year-old man, was freed on Tuesday night.

The man was arrested in Plymouth on 27 March, along with two 20-year-old women, a 19-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy after police found explosives.

Police said investigations were continuing, but those freed were no danger to the public.

A search of a Plymouth flat after the arrest of the eldest man led to police finding “political literature”.

After the flat was searched, a number of “firework-like devices” were made safe by Royal Navy bomb disposal experts.

Literature found in the flat was described by officers as political but “not extremist“.

The 25-year-old man, the 20-year-old women and the 16-year-old boy are on police bail in connection with other offences.

The 19-year-old man faces no further action.

Det Supt John Clements, of Devon and Cornwall Police, said: “The Constabulary is continuing to carry out a thorough and detailed police investigation and, while a large number of items have already been seized and arrests made, the investigation is ongoing.

“We would like to reassure the public that at no stage has anyone been released from police custody who poses any threat to the public.”

Detectives were investigating the possibility they were planning to mount protests in London against last week’s G20 summit of world leaders.

Told you so.

One of the most worrying aspects of this case is the apparent believe by the cops that the possession of certain political literature expressing “different political views” is suspicious enough to make you a terrorist suspect. This quote from the cops at the time of the arrest says is all:

“Asked to clarify the nature of the material, Netherton said: “It’s political, it relates to political organisations, it’s not extreme but it’s a different political view. It leads to motives and things like that.””

  2. Shades of ‘Tony Leamon’, the Cornish nationalist who was hounded by Devon & Cornwall Constabulary & my own personal experience of homophobic victimisation of gay equality campaigners by Devon & Cornwall Constabulary.

Lets not forget police LIED about circumstances surrounding Charles De Menezes, the Brazilian who was shot repeatedly in the head by police at Stockwell tube station & now further LIES by City of London police regarding circumstances about an innocent newspaper man simply returning home caught up in police instigated violence & who was beaten to the ground by police at the G20 protest. This ALL caught on film, but police initially denied they had been anywhere near the victim who later died.

I think it is the police common place blatant dishonesty, lack of integriity, lack of impartiality & lack of transparency of conduct which has become the benchmark of modern abusive policing & victimisation of those who dare dissent (or even those who don’t) to these institutional abuses carried out by known & identifiable police officers.

This is not helped by the IPCC bias & favouritisim towards police which resulted in 100 lawyers withdrawing their services last year from the ‘corrupt’? IPCC.

Police ….you would be a fool to trust them!

  3. The important thing to remember is NEVER trust the police or the media at first, only when you have exhausted all the other possibilities, is whatever is left no matter how implausible possibly true… When it comes to the police and their friends in the press.

Try saying that when you’re pissed by the way.
